Understanding Meridian licenses

Following are the basic Meridian license types:

• Meridian Enterprise PowerUser Client licenses are claimed by each computer when opening a vault document regardless of the client application used. In addition to these licenses, one Database Connection license is claimed per user. Multiple Meridian client sessions on the same computer only claim one each of these licenses.

• The Database Connection licenses can be used for Hypertrieve, SQL Server, or Oracle hosted vaults. When used with the SQL Server or Oracle database management systems, each Meridian Database Connection license requires a corresponding SQL Server or Oracle client access license. Meridian does not include licenses for the SQL Server and Oracle database management systems. Refer to your Microsoft or Oracle software license agreement to determine the required number of SQL Server or Oracle client access licenses.

• All versions of AutoVue that are used (AutoVue 2D Professional, AutoVue 3D Professional Advanced, and AutoVue Client/Server) are authorized by either a PowerUser Client license for 2D viewing or by an AutoVue 3D Viewer license for 2D and 3D viewing. Every PowerUser Client license includes authorization to use AutoVue 2D Professional (desktop deployment) or AutoVue Client/Server for 2D viewing. The optional AutoVue 3D Viewer license from BlueCielo authorizes its user to use AutoVue 3D Professional Advanced (desktop deployment) or AutoVue Client/Server for viewing any document: 2D, 3D, or otherwise.

  The AutoVue 3D Viewer licenses are floating, concurrent use licenses that are claimed in addition to the PowerUser Client licenses. The AutoVue 3D Viewer licenses can be reserved like the other Meridian Enterprise licenses as described in the BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise Administrator's Guide.

  If the Oracle AutoVue 3D viewer libraries component is installed from a Meridian Enterprise setup program on a user's computer, an AutoVue 3D Viewer license will be claimed (if available) by that user when they begin viewing any document: 2D or 3D vector drawings, raster images, Office documents, Adobe PDF documents, and so on. The same license will be claimed by the user if they view a document using AutoVue Client/Server. The AutoVue 3D Viewer license is only released when the Meridian Enterprise client is closed. Viewing a 3D document does not make 2D viewer license available for an additional user.

• Optional module licenses are claimed whenever a vault is opened in which the optional module is enabled, such as the Asset Management Module, Advanced Project Workflow Module, and so on. Some modules require client licenses; other modules only require server licenses. If the server license of a module is claimed by a client application as the result of opening a vault that uses that module, the license will continue to be claimed even after a different vault is opened in the same client session that doesn't use the module. To release the server license, the client application must be restarted. • NEW  The Shared Workspace Support server license is required for any Meridian application server that hosts vaults that have folder types defined with the Can be used as a shared workspace option enabled. The license is claimed regardless of whether the folder type is actually used or shared workspaces are defined. If the license is absent, the vault cannot be opened by the client applications and documents cannot be opened or saved in the vault from other applications. • Special licenses are available for use only in development and test environments. The licenses are provided so that such environments can be isolated from computers that are used for production purposes and so that licenses that are needed for production are not claimed by other users. These Not For Production licenses have product codes that include the letters NFP, for example, M--PURNFP001-XEE94.

Special ways that these licenses behave as opposed to production licenses are:

• They do not need to be authorized by BlueCielo ECM Solutions. The licenses are available immediately after registering in the BlueCielo License Server.
• They do not expire.
• They display a message when they are used.
• They cannot be registered together with production licenses and on the same BlueCielo License Server.

Note    Existing prior release licenses must be upgraded before use with newer software. Ensure that the upgrade licenses are registered before upgrading existing installations. The licenses are backward-compatible. That is, licenses for newer releases of the software can be used with older releases of the software. The old licenses do not need to be registered. The licenses also support a mix of different versions, for example, such as during the deployment of upgrades. The newer licenses will work with both upgraded client and server computers as well as those that have not yet been upgraded.
